3. One of the primary ICs on the motherboard is the processor, also called the CPU. The CPU
significantly impacts overall computing power and manages most of the computers
operations. Most hardware devices connected to the computer communicate with the CPU
in order to carry out a task. The CPU contains four main areas:

4. During processing, the processor places instructions to be executed and data needed by
those instructions into memory. Sometimes called primary storage, this and other types of
memory consists of one or more chips on the motherboard or some other circuit board in
the computer. Memory stores three basic items: (i) the operating system and other system
software that control the use of the computer equipment (ii) application software that carry
out a specific task such as word processing and (iii) the data being processed by the
application programs. There are two types of memory what are they and what to the
acronyms stand for?
