Indian Railway is one of the largest railway networks

around the globe with more than 23 million
passengers using its services daily. Be it travelling
daily to offices and schools or retiring home after a
hectic semester, railways have touched our lives on
an enormous level.

But they are an inefficient mess for a system of this magnitude!

Inspired by the current initiative on cleanliness Swachh Bharat We aim to address some
key problems related to cleanliness, grievance
redressal, feedback procurement, situations
where passengers need urgent attention and real
time availability of train statistics.

Our Solution
Our solution consists of a scenario in which every train in the Indian railway is equipped with
a raspberry pi which is interfaced with a GPS module, GSM module and a Wi-Fi
module. Major components are explained below:

Different web pages are hosted on a server running on the Raspberry Pi for various
services and are made available to a passenger through Wi-Fi. A passenger may login
to the pi system through his/her phone browser (no need of installing a mobile
phone application) by his PNR number.

Web pages are hosted for:

Issues related to cleanliness, catering and related services.
Feedback for services.
Urgent attention at next station in case of emergency.
Train statistics such as temperature, speed, location, next and last stations.

Information procured through the passengers is stored in the Raspberry Pi and

is relayed to the control room instantly through the GSM module. It will help the
authorities in addressing the grievances of passengers more effectively at the next
station.

Train statistics are obtained through temperature sensors and the GPS module and
displayed on a different web page. Thus, now passengers will know exactly where
they are strangled, what is the problem for which it has halted etc.
It is our firm conviction that this system will significantly improve service
deliverance in the Railways.
