Strateg IC: Intervention

This document provides an overview of a multiplication intervention program presented to students. The objectives are for students to correctly multiply one-digit numbers and use multiple strategies for multiplying one-digit numbers. Several word problems and activities are described to help students practice different multiplication strategies like repeated addition, equal groups, and arrays. Games involving guessing answers, cycling between groups, and a multiplication poem are also outlined to engage students in learning multiplication.

WELCOME TO THE
WORLD OF
MULTIPLICATION

Presented

Siano

OBJECTIVES

Students will multiply one digit

number correctly;
Students will use multiple
strategies for multiplying onedigit number.

To find out how many stars there are, you could add.

2 yellow + 2 red + 2 blue = 6 stars

However, if you have equal groups of

something you can use

I see three groups of two.

3 groups x 2 = 6 stars

Sometime multiplication can be used

when objects are in rows or columns,
or arrays.

Here is an array of flowers.

There are 3 rows of 6 flowers.

3 x 6 = 18 flowers.

When combining EQUAL groups,

the fastest way to get the total
is by using

words

Lets Test Your Brain!

All you have to do is to answer all the

exercises. And once you pass it, at the end of
the journey, You will have the Priceless
Treasure!

Exercise No. 1

This strategy game is using Guess

and Check.
All you have to do is to find your
partner for this game.

Are you ready?

My name is
Joanlyn and
Im on a hurry!
My flight for
Singapore is
about 1 hour to
go, but I have a
problems to be
solve! Can you
help me?

The teacher will give a card containing problems and the

pairs should have guess the answer and let the other
group check their work.

This Friday he skipped

breakfast. How many
meals did he eat during this
week?
Now one day is different. It
is only ONE day though, so
we just subtract the one
meal from the total.
7 x 3 1 = _______

Easy
right?

1. Mr. Johnson usually eats three meals

a day. How many meals does he eat in a
normal week?
Again, we have the situation of EACH
DAY the SAME thing happens.
7 days 3 meals a day = _____ meals in
a normal week.

In the following week, he ate three times on

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and four times on
the rest of the days. How many meals did he
eat during the week?
Now we have the one kind of situation three
times, and the other kind of situation four
times. We calculate those separately, and then
add.
3 x 3 + 4 x 4 = ______

Wow! Great!
Multiplication is fun.
But there are still more
to work on.

My remaining time
is 50 minutes
more. Go lets
have to double up
our time.

Here comes

When youre multiplying

numbers together, it
doesnt matter what
order you use.

This activity will use a dice.

Two players against each other,
starting with 0 each. Winner is
the player to first reach a score
of 500 or more.
Now listen,
The players throw 2 dice,
whatever the result is you were
going to multiply it, until you
reach the 500. but, if one of your
dice result is 1, automatically
youre score will be back to
zero.
So Enjoy!

You did enjoy right?

Well, did you know that
Multiplication is the same as
repeated Addition.

Now the next challenging game is Got it. As the

teacher read the problem, all you have to do is
to answer it right away. And once you are
correct, that the time when the teacher says
You Got it!.

Mary is saving up money to go on a trip. This

month, she saved three times as much
money as she saved last month. Last month,
she saved $24.00. How much money did
Mary save this month?
As much as tells you that you have a
comparison.
Three times is the multiplier.
$24.00 is the amount in the first set.
How much money did Mary save this month?is the
question you are being asked. To solve,
multiply$24.00x3.

Four children are

playing tennis together.
They all brought six
balls.How many balls do
they have total?

The Smith family

has five members.
Each member has a
small towel and a
bath towel. How
many towels hang
in the bathroom?

Hurray! You made a

good job! Now lets
do one more game
and I can already
go to the Airport.

This is the last chapter of

the game. All you have to
do is to read the
Multiplication Poem which
could motivate you to know
and learn more about
Multiplication! Since this is
the last, can I expect you to
perform well?
Great!

Math Poem: My Dog Multiplication Poem by Mr. R..

Late last year,
During winter vacation,
Dad got us our dog,
Multiplication...
Multiplication's a good dog,
But he's not without trouble,
Because one day I woke up,
And found out he'd doubled...
Two dogs were there,
They looked like him,
2 X 1,
I had a big grin...
Two dogs were cool,
But what about more?
The next day I woke up,
And saw there were 4! ! ! !

4 dogs were a lot,

But the fun was still great,
Until the next morning,
When I saw there were 8! !
Eight dogs for walking,
Was one of my fears,
That's 32 legs,
16 dog ears! ! !
But 8 dogs were only,
A small irritation,
Compared to,
16 X,
My dog, Multiplication! ! !
That's 64 paws,
And 16 long tails,
32 eyes,
256 toe nails! ! !
Having so many dogs,
Has been a fun ride,
But it's time multiplication,
Learns to divide! ! ! !

Well done children!

Thank you for
helping me. Now Ill
be leaving and as I
came back I am
expecting that you
will improve more
and master your
skills. Have a great
day everyone!
