Mass Conversion Factors

This document provides formulas for calculating the mass of various steel components. It gives the formula for calculating the mass per meter of pipe as a function of the outside diameter, wall thickness, and a constant. It also provides the formula for calculating the mass of a plain steel plate based on its length, width, thickness, and the density of steel. Finally, it lists formulas for calculating the mass per meter of steel bars, rounds, squares, flats and hexagons based on their dimensions and constants.

STEEL MASS CONVERSION FACTORS

MASS of PIPE

kg/m= [Outside Diameter (mm) - Wall Thickness (mm)] x Wall Thickness (mm) x 0.0246615

MASS of PLAIN PLATE

kg/plate = Length (m) x Width (m) x Thickness (m) x 7850 kg (mass of one cubic metre)
For floor plate mass add 2 kg /m2

MASS of STEEL BARS

Rounds:

Dia. (mm2) x 0.006165 = kg/m

Squares:

Size (mm2) x 0.00785 = kg/m

Flats:

Width (mm) x Thickness (mm) x 0.00785 = kg/m

Hexagons:

Size (mm2) x 0.00457 = kg/m
