Florence Griffith-Joyner, known as Flo Jo, was a world-famous track star in the 1980s.
She was born in Los Angeles on December 21st, 1959. Her first Olympic competition
was at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. She won a silver medal in the 200 meter
race. She became well-known for her long, painted fingernails and her amazing,
colorful clothes. When Florence went to the Olympics in Seoul, Korea in 1988, she
won three gold medals. After the 1988 Olympics, she retired from competitive sports
and started her own fashion business. On September 21st, 1998, Florence GriffithJoyner died during an epileptic seizure.
