Surveying Assignment #3
Surveying Assignment #3
Problem #1
A man standing on a beach can see the top of a lighthouse 25KM away. If the eye of the man is
1.5m above the see level, determine the height of the lighthouse above the sea level considering
curvature and refraction correction.
Problem # 2
Two hills 90KM apart has elevations of 60m and 90m and A and B respectively. What would be
the minimum height of towers that could be constructed at B so that it would be visible from A
considering the effect of curvature and refraction correction.
Problem # 3
Two stations are at the water edge on opposite of lake 13Km. wide. If the telescope at one station
is 1.8m. above the water level, what is the height of tower at the other station that will be just
visible without the line of sight approaching nearer than 1.8m to the water level?
Problem #4
A surveyor sighted a signal light at 1degrees and 34min. with the horizontal line sight and 5Km
away. If the eye of the man is 1.6m above the see level, determine the height of the lighthouse
above the sea level considering curvature and refraction correction.
