Weekend at Bernies III 2013 was a

thriller for the crowd. Six goals flew in
and both teams felt they deserved the
win at different points.
KV Blacks started well, winning the ball
across the park and putting together the best
football.
A break down the right saw Adam,
running hard at right midfield, make a break
into the box. He weighed his options and
played a measured pass to Vic at the far post
for a tap in.
Soon after and the Whites were struggling
to contain the sustained pressure from the
Blacks. A corner saw Fewelly climb above the
defence near the edge of the area. He headed
down to Vics feet, who turned in the box with
strength on the spot and finished from the six
yard box.
A little fire towards the end of the first
half as Dame got to know the forehead of one
of the Whites. (It was noticable that as a team
the Blacks came in for a chat....only a couple
of the Whites there to support their mates).
The half time break was the worst thing
to happen for the Blacks. After the break the
team couldnt get started....despite Donny
doing his best Braveheart impersonation in
the middle of the park...I dont know what he
said but I did imagine a 4 foot braveheart
riding on his donkey leading us forward...
The Whites were dominating field
position and possession. (some thanks to our
stand in left back even taking quick throw ins
that found their feet).
A dodgy free kick to the Whites on the
edge of the area, saw the Blacks build a wee
wall....the Scot from the Whites duly drove a
NEXT MATCH

rocket over the leaping Donny and Thommo,

finding the top corner.
The Whites were fired up and pushed
again immediately and found another to bring
it back to 2-2.
The Blacks knew they needed to get the
ball and themselves moving, but were finding
it tough. A good spell of possession, started
from Dame in the back right corner saw a
sweeping movement to halfway that found
Thommo, who played the line to Trev, who
found Vic on the penalty spot. Again he
turned strong and finished for the lead (and
his hatrick).
A chance to the Whites striker from the
edge of the area was struck brilliantly, but met
by the shotstopper Nolan at full stretch to
push it around the post - quality.
Minutes from the end and the Whites
again pushed, desperate to get something out
of the game. A ball that bounced o the cross
bar and Nolan, was eventually finished by one
of about six whites around the ball.
With no time left, the Blacks couldnt
steal a winner and were left to rue the missed
three points.
Apart from one bloke who seemed to be
playing for the Whites, the Blacks were very
good with Fewelly, Dame, Noons, and
Thommo marshalling the back (Stonie went
o to rest the hammy early). with the help of
Alecs. Donny played brilliantly in the middle
and Adam ran the right midfield
outstandingly. Jaime and Vic were great up
front.
Fewelly did play tough through injury and
came out of the game humming The Streets
of Philadelphia, thanks to a massive head
clash.
