Graphing a Line Using a Table of Values

Weve been working on relating points (x, y), tables, equations and rules. Now lets work on
putting this all together to graph a line.
Example 1: Graph y = 3x + 2
Step 1: Set up a table of values.
Step 2: Choose several values of x (4 or 5 values should do).
Step 3: Plug each x value into the equation and find the corresponding y value.
Step 4: Plot each point on the graph.
Step 5: Connect the points to form a line.

The trick to this method is that in order to easily fill-in your table of values, the equation should be in
y = form. That is, you need to solve the equation for y if it has not been done for you.
