Assignment 2 Scales PDF

This document contains an assignment with questions about scales used in planimetric surveying. It asks students to: 1) Define scale, describe different types of scales, and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. 2) Calculate real distances and areas using a scale of 1:100 from measurements on a map. 3) Determine the scale, area on a map, and true area using measurements from an old map. 4) Calculate the scale of a map and the actual area of a circular building using measurements from the map. It also asks students to design graphical scales within given parameters and show lengths on each scale.

Assignment 2

Question 1:Define scale. What are the different types of scales? Mention their advantages and
disadvantages.
Question 2:A surveying map was drawn with scale 1:100. The distance between two points A and B
was measured on the map and was 19.6cm. What is the real distance between the two
points? If the line AB represents a border of a rectangular residential building with width
13.7m. Calculate the area of the building in real and on the map.
Question 3:Using an old map to get the area of a triangular area, the lengths of the three borders
were 17.06 cm, 13.6 cm and 21.3 cm. measuring only the first side of the area in the
field and was 170.60m, calculate:a-The area on the map
b-The used scale
c-The true area
Question 4:The length of a line was measured on a map and found to be 5cm. If the actual length
of this line is 250m, determine the scale of the map. After that, the area of a circular
building was obtained from the same map and found to be 28.27cm 2. Calculate the
actual real area of this building in m2.
Question 5:Design a graphical scale 1:1000 with accuracy 0.50m. Show a length of 24.5m on this
scale.
Question 6:Design a graphical scale 1:5000 with accuracy 2m. Show a length of 19m on this scale.
Question 7:Design a graphical scale 1:2500 with accuracy 1m. Show a length of 116m on this scale.
Question 8:Design a graphical scale 1:100 with accuracy 0.2m. Show a length of 2.4m on this scale.
