IG DOWN OF STEAM TURBINE (KWU DESIGN TURBINE - FOR VARIANTS HAVING CASING MOUNTED VALVES FOR JP TURBINE)" INTRODUCTION '¥ service activities or repair have to be carried out very soon or immediately after Shutdown of the Turbine, itis advisable to reduce the cooling down time. Fast coating 'S necessary especially if activities are to be executed at Turbine parts which are exposed to high operational temperature, Cooling down of Turbine during operation ‘The cooling down of the Turbine already starts during load operation as follows: * Reduce unit power output fo the boiler minimum toad * Slowly reduce admission temperatures fo values which can be maintained steady by the boiler control, (Note:- Avoid reducing admission temperature incase C&! of MS/ HRH temperature control is not reliable, The HP exhaust temperature may not be reduced to the saturation point Corresponding to the HP exhaust pressure, * Observe the TSE margins Note: Do not reduce foad and temperature at the same time because of the ‘danger to exceed the permissible tower margin of the TSE. Load or temperature reduction have to be stopped or the rate of change to be reduced upon tendency that limiting values of fower margins of the TSE are reached Sheet No.1 of 76 * Operate the Turbine with reduced load and admission temperature until the wall temperature of TSE do not change significantly any more. * Shut down Turbine in accordance with the respective instructions after cooling down during bypass operation has been completed, Fast cooling down during stand still During stand stil air wil be sucked through the Turbine by the vacuum pumps with the result of fast cooling of casing and rotor. Arrangement of fet sockets * HP Turbine : Between main steam stop valves and control valves. * IP Turbine : Between reheat steam stop valves and control valves. * During normal operation the air inlet sockets are closed by blank flanges. PROCEDURE “Open air inlet sockets and observe TSE margins and ensure minimum lower ‘margins is not less than 10 K. * Ensure all HP and IP stop vaives are in closed condition and open HP and IP control valves * Operate vacuum pumps * minimum lower margins approaches 10 K, stop vacuum pumps or open vacuum breaker to reduce vacuum. The fast cooling down of the Turbine has to be limited to those cases whore this measure is unavoidable with respect to the availability of the Turbine.the O&M instructions:- FAST COOLING DOWN OF TURBINE {KWU DESIGN MACHINE) + Open air inlet sockets between main steam stop valve and control valve for HP ‘urbine cooling. Cover the opening of air inlet sockets provided for HP turbine Cooling with wire mesh to avoid any foreign material to go inside 2 Ensure both HP and iP stop valves are in closed Position, Open HP control valves and keep IP control valves in closed condttion 3. Machine will be kept on barring gear 4. Start vacuum pump / starting ejector. No steam is to be given to Turbine glands. Keep gland steam exhaust fan in stopped condition. Air wil be sucked through Turbine glands also in adcliion to the air socket kept open between HP stop and control valve. Area near Turbine glands to be kept clean, Vacuum to be maintained in such a way so that the following parameter remaing in operating limits, * Lower margin on Turbine Stress Evaluator * Speed of the Turbine In case any of the above operating parameters nears limiting value, vacuum pulling equipment should be stopped. Normally this situation-does nt arse if the vacuum is maintained around -0.2 Kgicm2 to -0,4 Kg/cm2 Record the. Parameters in enclosed log sheet . Aller 48 hrs, open IP control vaive and ai inlet socket provided between 1P stop and control valves for cooling of IP turbine. Open IP control valves tor lk Turbine cooling . Sheet No.3 of 7After 72 hrs, it has been experienced in: many sites (where fast cooting procedure has’ been adopted) metal temperature of the turbine parts comes down to 120 to 150 deg.C. Further cooling down can still be continued. However, at this stage; oll to the bearing can be stopped and dismantling of Turbine parts can be undertaken, After completing the fast cooling down process, the following curve may be drawn EAST COOLING DOWN:(TURBINE) CURVE HP METAL TEMPERATURE NO.
