Task 9

The teacher used several strategies to manage student behavior in the classroom, including using proximity, making eye contact, and targeting questions to students. The strategies of proximity and eye contact helped keep students alert and controlled, while targeting questions helped maintain student involvement. The teacher was also clear in establishing classroom rules and expectations. While most of the teacher's strategies were effective, it was noted that bringing students to wash their hands before entering the classroom could improve classroom transitions.

Year One, Semester One/2015/SWC

Strategies used by
teacher
Use proximity

Make eye contact

Target aqs questions

What children did

How useful it was

When children feel

bored they inattentive
to other things and
distracted and they
start talking with each
other. For example,
Hamad feels bored
from the lesson so he
starts talking with Ali
about his father car
and how many cars
they have.

I personally think that

using proximity is a
good strategy because
it keep students alert,
it also will help the
teacher to control
them while shes
teaching.

Sometimes students
start acting
misbehavior during
the class, they chat
with each other or
scream or move from
place to another. Last
week Rama start
kicking the boys and
he moved from place
to another because he
get bored from the
activity and from the
lesson.

I think that by making

eye contact with
students they will pay
attention and they will
stop making noise and
moving, so it's useful
and good strategy for
managing students
behavior.

During the circle time,

some children don't
answer any question
and some of them set
quietly without saying
anything at all. While
Im observing this
classroom, I notice
that Ahmed doesnt
talk too much and he
doesnt share stories
like his friends.

In my opinion, I think
that target question
for students is a useful
strategy for the
students because
directing question
during the class help
the teacher maintain
students involvement.

1.
Did
the

teacher maintain good order in the class? How did she do this?
In the classroom, there are some student misbehave so the teacher can manage
them by making eye contact with them and if didnt work with she targets some
question for them, so I think that she can maintain good order in the class.

2. Is the teacher clear and consistent in establishing rules and expectations

regarding behavior?
Ms.Wafa was so clear in establishing rules and expectation regarding behavior,
she set her rules in the first day and she teach them about it by showing them a
video about the rules and whenever they do anything in the classroom she told
them about the rule. for example, If Saif answers the question without raising his
hand she told them that he should raise his hand if he wants to answers.

3.

Which of these strategies would you use/not use? Why?

Im going to use target question strategy because it will help me to maintain my

students involvement.

4.

Was there anything that could have been done differently?

Yeah, there is, On the playground she stays with them and watch them but went
the playground time finished she just say for them that it's class time and she go
to the class. In my opinion, it will be better if she told them and after that she
asks them to stand in two lines then she takes them to the bathroom to wash
their hands. After doing all that, she can go to the classroom.

5.

What surprised you?

What really surprised me while Im observing is the students, some of them have
abilities more than their age. One of these students is Yousif. Yousif always
answers the question that the teacher gives him and what I liked about him that
their parents take him to the mosques every day to pray and to read The Holy
Quran.

6.

What shocked you?

One day my friend Fatima teacher was absent and they put her students in our
classroom. Ms.Wafa shout on them if they move slowly in the activities and she
act like they are not here. I personally think thats wrong behavior because she
should deal with them like they are her students and she should let them
answers

7.

What delighted you?

I felt happy when the students danced and sang the song because they were so
excited and when they dance they see me if Im doing with them or not. The
second thing that made me happy and excited is when I became a teacher for 10
minutes, I liked how they were looking to me and they were so excited.
