Task 6

1) The classroom had a purposeful, warm and supportive climate. The teacher greeted students and helped them feel comfortable. Order was maintained through classroom rules. 2) The teacher built intrinsic motivation by showing engaging videos and tasks, and bringing in a nurse to discuss health. Extrinsic motivation came from a reward system where good behavior earned prizes. 3) There was mutual respect between the teacher and students. Students saw her as a role model and emulated her teachings at home.

Classroom Climate
Classroom culture and context
1. Is the classroom climate purposeful and task orientated? Give an example.
During the Circle time center, Ms. Ebtihal would get the students ready for learning.
Shell start off by taking the attendance, reciting the Quran, and counting numbers and
much more. Ms. Ebtihal greets the students when they enter the classroom and that makes
them feel comfortable and welcomed.
2. Is the classroom climate relaxed, warm and supportive? Give an example.
Yes, at the beginning of the year Widad would come crying and being dragged every morning to
her classroom but with time she started showing up happy without making a fuss. The students
sitting at the Circle time center would try not judge her and give her glances, they would sit and
talk to each other while Ms. Ebtihal tried to calm her down.
3. Does the classroom climate have a sense of order? Give an example.
Yes, whenever the students had to move to another activity or leave the classroom
whether its to the toilet, playground or to the resources room. Ms. Ebtihal has a very
good classroom management where the students respect and listen to her. When going to
the toilet, they would walk there in pairs and quietly and return to wipe their hands and
take their seat.
4. How did the teacher build on intrinsic motivation?
By showing them videos, pictures and handing them tasks to solve. For example, Ms.
Ebtihal once showed a them a video about washing your teeth and keeping it clean. She
also asked the nurse to visit our classroom to give them some tips and advice.

5. How did the teacher build on extrinsic motivation?

By using the Reward system strategy, Ms. Ebtihal used this strategy to motive the students to
well-behave. For example, she told Widad that if she managed to come to the classroom and not
cry for a whole week then shell receive a gift and it was a success.
6. What sort of relationship did the teacher have with the students? For example, was there
mutual respect and rapport, did the teacher act as a good example, did s/he use humor?
She has a very good teacher-student relationship, the students saw her as a good role
model and looked up to her. She only used humor when it was necessary and taught them
about morals at all time. When it was parents meeting, the parents were shocked and
interested at how their child was acting at home. For example, the students would go to
their parents and greet them and use moral at home just like Ms. Ebtihal taught them.
7. Describe the classroom appearance in terms of the layout. What did you like not like
about it and why? What would you change or not change and why?
I mostly like the Circle time center, Ms. Ebtihal designed it well and the billboard was behind
where she sat and taught them. All tasks were well-prepared and hanged up on the board. Theres
also the board where Ms. Ebtihal would hang the students work that she loved and admired
inside the classroom and the ones that she wanted to show off her childrens progress outside the
classroom next to the door.
Motivation
Observe and record strategies used by the teacher to motivate the students positively to
learn.
Strategies used by teacher
1. Helping hand: The
teacher had all the
students name cards

the Circle time center,
she would mark the
next student using a

I think that this strategy is very
useful and advantageous to
both teacher and students, they

teacher would have someone

to help her out.

1. Did the teacher use praise? Which students did she praise and why?
Yes, Ms. Ebtihal used praise. She praised the good, well-behaved and progressed students who
dont run and make noise, the ones who listen well to her. For example, she praised Widad for
her progress for coming every morning and not crying.
2. Which of these strategies would you use/not use? Why?
I would like to use the helping hand strategy, it motivated the students to help the teacher and be
patient and wait for their turn.
3. Was there anything that could have been done differently?
I think that if Ms. Ebtihal had an assistant once in a while it would be nice, someone who would
help her when handing out the tasks, food or escorting them to the toilet.
