Day 9

The document summarizes a teacher's use of different behavior management strategies in her classroom, including sending a misbehaving student to the back of the line, making eye contact with an inattentive student, and hiding learning materials under a basket to grab students' attention. The strategies were observed to be generally effective, though sending students to the back of the line could discourage some from participating. Maintaining a clean classroom free of insects was also noted.

Day 9 Tuesday, November 24th, 2015

Behavior management
Observe and record strategies used by the teacher to manage
students behavior.
Strategies used by
teacher
The teacher sent the
student to the back of
the line.

What children did

How useful it was

The student was

annoying his friend in
the morning assembly.

It was useful because

after she sent him he
couldnt annoy his
friend and this was a
punishment for him
because if a teacher
sends a student to the
back of the line it means
that he misbehaved and
he should not do this
behavior again.
It was useful because
the teacher didnt
disturbe the lesson by
calling on him and
wasting time punishing
him. She only did eye
contact with him and
when he saw her he
could understand that
she is looking at him
and he should pay
attention to the lesson.
The teacher could grab
their attention by this
way because they were
all curious to know what
is under the basket. This
strategy made the
lesson more fun and
exciting for the students
when she gives them
the properties of the
object to make them

Making eye contact.

The student was playing

with his shirts buttons
and he was not paying
attention in the circle
time.

To grab the students

attention she hides the
materials under the
basket and she makes
them guess.

The students started

being annoying and
feeling bored from the
classroom. And after
she did that they
started listening to her.

guess.
1. Did the teacher maintain good order in the class? How did she do this?
The teacher could maintain good order in the class by planning the lesson
before starting it and having all of her materials ready. The teacher can
adapt if she felt that the lesson is not suitable for the condition of the
students if they are feeling sleepy or active. She can change the plan to the
suitable way she thinks that it would work with her students.
2. Is the teacher clear and consistent in establishing rules and
expectations regarding behavior?
The teacher was clear and consistent because she made her students put
the rules they should follow and she reminds them of the rules every once in
a while. Students are understanding the rules and following them due to the
directions of their teacher because if anyone did something wrong, he will
get the punishment they decided on together.
3. Which of these strategies would you use/not use? Why?
I would like to use the eye contact and hiding the materials under the basket
because the eye contact strategy wont distract other students and wont
make the student ashamed in front of his friends if the teacher yelled at him.
And I would hide materials because I know that all of the students will be
curious to know what is under the basket and they will pay attention and try
to figure out. Alternatively I wont send the student to the back of the line
because if I did, every student who will be standing at the back will think that
this is the place for the punishment and they will not like standing at the
back and they might fight to stand in the front.
4. Was there anything that could have been done differently?
The teacher could have a mystery box for the students every day in the
middle of the circle time to get their attention and work their cognitive skills
every day and it will make the lesson more fun for them.
5. What surprised you?
I was surprised from the student who is called Ghala. In my previous
observations, she was so quiet and she didnt even answer or talk when the
teacher talks to her or asks her to answer. But she changed completely and
started participating and answering.
6. What shocked you?
I was shocked when the students were playing with the blocks and then they
told me that there is a dead insect inside. I saw it and I was shocked because
this place should be cleaned up and it shouldnt have insects. We also saw an
insect that came from the literacy area under the storage unit.

7. What delighted you?

I was delighted when the teacher started singing for the children when they
had the transition to the centers and from the centers to lunch time. When
the teacher started singing the students were singing with her and they were
so happy and active to clean up the centers.
