NFL Deflategate
The NFL Deflate gate was a scandal in the 2014 AFC Championship game involving The
New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady. The scandal involved the alleged tampering
of footballs used by the Patriots in the game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots were
accused of tampering with and partially deflating the footballs prior to the start of the game. Tom
Brady was originally suspended for the first four games of the 2014-15 NFL season, but that
suspension was shorty appealed.

This is a book I found in the UNC Charlotte library. It relates to my topic because it
pertains to having proper ethics and being truthful in the world of sports. It has a multitude of
examples of sports scandals in the past caused by poor sports ethic and ways to stop this
irrational behavior. Many sports players and coaches nowadays will do just about anything it
takes to win a game, even if that involves bending the rules a bit. While cheating may result in a
win for you or your team, you haven't really won because you had an unfair advantage. Whether
or not the Patriots tampered with the footballs during that championship game is still unclear,
however the outcome of that game was heavily in their favor causing some speculation.

With such a large scandal, great consequences follow. While Tom Brady suspension
was appealed, there are still many great affects of this issue. Not only does it create a bad
reputation and distrust for Brady and the Patriots organization, but for the NFL as a whole. The
Patriots, supposedly, tried to cheat their way into the Super Bowl. With such a large fancies and
so many people looking up to them, this created a lot of distrust in to organization. While they
have a large group of fans rallying around and supporting them, they have also lost a great
amount of fans and supports. This doesnt only affect the Patriots organization negatively, but
the entire NFL as well. They lack of supervision and inability to stop something like this to occur
puts a lot of doubt into peoples minds as to whether the NFL has its teams and players under
control. After the reports a came out a Fire Goodell chant came with it. Goodell is the
Commissioner of the NFL and oversees just about every action that takes place. As yet another
scandal slips though his hards, many begin to question his leadership ability and want him gone.
"Deflategate Judge Bashed NFL, but Didn't Actually Address What Tom Brady Knew."
Boston.com. The New York Times, 15 Sept. 2015. Web. 18 Nov. 2015.
While the main judge of the deflategate appealed Tom Bradys 4 - Game suspension, he
failed to determine and figure out what Brady actually knew about the whole incident. U.S.
District Judge Richard M. Berman thoroughly trashed NFL Commissioner Roger Goodells
handling of the NFL disciplinary process in his Thursday ruling, but did little to figure out if Brady
knew more than he was willing to reveal about the scheme the league has blamed on Patriots
ball handlers. Berman said he was overturning the NFLs suspension of Brady because the
player was never warned he could face suspension and because of several significant legal
deficiencies in the NFLs treatment of Brady.
