The Bus Interface Unit

The 8086 CPU is organized into two separate processors: the Bus Interface Unit (BIU) and the Execution Unit (EU). The BIU handles functions like generating memory and I/O addresses to transfer data between external components and the EU. The EU receives instructions and data from the BIU, executes the instructions, and returns results to the BIU. The EU has no direct connection to system buses, only communicating through the BIU to input and output all data.
