What does it mean?
Traverse ranges is what
surrounds the San Fernando
Valley with mountains. It
means that there is a group of
mountain that begins on the
south of California. Its name is
given due to their non-
traditional orientation of
north- south, but East west
orientation. Their average
height is about 3,ooo to 8,000
feet with a form of parallel
ridges.

Where is the San Fernando Valley


Located?
The San Fernando Valley is about 260
square miles bounding on the
Northwest with the Santa Susana
Mountains; to the west there are the
Simi Hills, to the south bounding with
The Santa Monica Mountains and to the
northeast with the San Gabriel
Mountains. The valley elevation is about
1,200 feet above sea level.

Stop #3 Weather
Conditions.
The San Fernando Valley usually
experiences different temperatures
compare to its neighboring cities .
here, temperatures in the Summer
can reach up to 107 degrees feeling
like a more desert conditions.
Summer usually is felt during the
months of September and October,
a little later that regular time.
During the winter temperature can
drop to the low 30s . During the
rainy season we see extensive
rainstorm, which results is
significant flooding in the streets.

Stop #4 Hansen Dam


The Hansen dam was built by the U.S army Corps of Engineers
and its purpose it to stop the damage of floods in the San

For this assignment, it was required to create a Virtual fieldtrip
base on one of the learning modules: Components of the
Earth system Here, I tried to include information about the
San Fernando Valley for the Lithosphere, which is basically
solid earth/land. For the Atmosphere, I touched bases on the
climate in this valley and how it is affected by its geographical
position. For the Hydrosphere I decided to talk about The
Hansen Dam and its process.
