November 30, 2015 Director of Human Resources Tucson Medical Center 5301 E Grant Road Tucson, AZ, 85712 Dear Director of Human Resources: I was pleased to learn of your job opening for a new graduate registered nurse. With an educational background in general medical-surgical, acute care, womens health, mental health, and pediatrics, I believe that I will meet your expectations for this positon and am prepared to become a supportive member of your health care team. As a recent graduate from the University of Arizonas College of Nursing, I have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program. This program has offered me the opportunity to develop skills necessary to any health care professional such as therapeutic communication, compassion, empathy, attention to detail, delegation, and interpersonal skills. I have spent 1,215 clinical hours in various hospital units including obstetrics, medical-surgical, intensive care, pediatrics, and mental health. During this time, I had the opportunity to practice skills that are required of registered nurses. For example, I am proficient at conducting patient assessments, safely administering medications, planning patient care, drawing blood samples, obtaining vital signs, assisting with ambulation, and assisting with hygiene. In addition to completing the College of Nursings BSN Program, I am a graduate of the University of Arizonas Honors College. As a member of the Honors College, I completed a thesis titled An Evidence-Based Protocol for Optimal Screening and Treatment of Antenatal Depression: A Best Practice Approach. As a part of my thesis, I created a best practice protocol to be implemented at the El Rio Birth and Womens Health Center, where I volunteered during the summer of 2014. I am also currently a volunteer at Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services (TOPS). As a volunteer at the Birth and Womens Health Center and TOPS I was able to maintain a smooth flow of daily activities by organizing and restocking supplies, while also interacting with several of the expectant mothers. These interactions provided me with a greater understanding of the compassionate care that is beneficial for patients and have supported my desire to be a nurse. I strongly believe that my educational background in nursing, clinical experience, and volunteer involvement have provided me with the necessary abilities to offer the patients at Tucson Medical Center with competent and quality care. I look forward to your response and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you in person to further discuss my qualifications and how I may best be of service to this institution. Sincerely, Suzanna Jeffries
