Tim Urban wrote an in-depth blog post about artificial intelligence where he explored its progress and implications. He discussed how technology growth has been exponential, not linear. Urban also described the three types of AI: artificial narrow intelligence focused on specific tasks; artificial general intelligence with human-level skills; and artificial super intelligence smarter than people. The blog post examined how ANIs like Google Translate are common today. Urban suggested we need to better understand the human brain to develop true AI. He closed by introducing the idea of an "intelligence explosion" where increasingly intelligent systems could lead to rapid technological change.

Urban, Tim. "The AI Revolution: Road to Superintelligence - Wait But Why." Wait But
Why. N.p., 22 Jan. 2015. Web. 7 Nov. 2015.
Tim Urban, the content creator of the internet blog Wait but Why has written
on many different topics of his blog. One prevalent topic that he writes in depth
about is artificial intelligence. While Urban is no expert on the topic, he tends to go
into great depth on the topics he writes about. This involves Opening three Chrome
windows with 42 research tabs in each, just short of getting to that stressful zone
where you cant see the icon on the tabs anymore. This shows, in a humorous way,
that he does a lot of research on the topics he writes about.
Urban starts off his blog article with how the human progression of
technology has steadily increased at an exponential rate since the beginning of us
as a species. Many model use todays growth rate like it is the maximum it could
ever possibly be, but forget that progress is exponential, not linear. Urban then goes
on to talk about what artificial intelligence is in general and the three different type
of AI. Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), which is designed to be amazing in one
singular aspect. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which should be just as skilled
and broad as a normal human being. Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), which is any
AI that is any bit smarter than a normal person. Urban then showcases the different
cases in which ANIs are in our lives already. Google Translate is another classic ANI
systemimpressively good at one narrow task. The reasoning behind why it is so
hard to progress from ANI to AGI or ASI. He quotes a computer scientist names
Donald Knuth with saying AI has by now succeeded in doing essentially everything
that requires thinking but has failed to do most of what people and animals do
without thinking. The need for more computing power is also mentioned, but that
is shown as an exponential function as well. Urban then states that we need to
Plagiarize the brain to create a true AI. Lastly, Urban goes into a concept known as
an Intelligence Explosion. An Intelligence Explosion is an event where an AI is
tasked to either upgrade itself or to design better AIs after it. Each of these new
versions could only be slightly better than the last, but that slight advantage would
make the new process of development faster and better, leading to better and
better AIs in a very short time span.

What we do know is that humans utter dominance on this Earth suggests a
clear rule: with intelligence comes power

In our world, smart means a 130 IQ and stupid means an 85 IQwe dont
have a word for an IQ of 12,952.
Creating the technology to reverse human aging, curing disease and hunger
and even mortality, reprogramming the weather to protect the future of life on Earth
all suddenly possible. Also possible is the immediate end of all life on Earth.

if an ASI comes to being, there is now an omnipotent God on Earthand the allimportant question for us is: Will it be a nice God?
Analysis:
This article is a perfect article to use for the inquiry question that I am
researching. While the author and source is not a reputable source, the author calls
upon over 30 different sources and summarizes their arguments into a concise
piece. I will likely use this piece as a large source of research and the sources that
Urban used as well for direct reference to the topics at hand.
