Computation of Earthwork

This document describes the computation of earthwork for a 1 km long railway embankment that has a rising gradient of 1% for the first 500m and a falling gradient of 1.5% for the remaining distance. The embankment is 5m wide at the base with side slopes of 2:1. The central depth is recorded at intervals of 100m from chainage 0m to 1000m. The volume of earthwork is calculated using the trapezoidal method and Simpson's rule. The trapezoidal method gives a volume of 1065000 cubic meters, while Simpson's rule gives a volume of 1076666.7 cubic meters, which is a difference of 11666.667 cubic meters.

7 COMPUTATION OF EARTHWORK

PROBLEM:A railway embankment 1 Km long is 5m wide at the formation level with side slope
of 2:1 it is constructed with a raising gradient of 1% upto 500m and falling gradient
of 1.5% till end. Taking regular interval of 100m and Central depth at the zero
chainage is 4m. Determine the volume of earthwork by Trapezodal and Simpsons
rule.
