Self Introduction
My name is Antonio Valencia Jr., I am Mexican and Apache. Born and raised in Phoenix,
Arizona, and know the whole west valley. I went to Verrado High School and graduated May
2012 with my Diploma and proceeded to college. I have recieved my Associates in Arts, Arizona
General Education Curriculum and Associates in General Education degree from Estrella
Mountain Community College. I am now attending Mary Lou Fulton teachers college at Arizona

2
State University, West campus. I have completed my teaching hours at Desert Thunder
Elementary in 5th grade ELA, as well as Wigwam Creek Middle School in 8th grade ELA. I
have also taught a Bible Study at the Mercy House in Cashion, AZ.
I was always fascinated with the old stories, legends and other oral traditions that would
share a story about a hero but in all there was a wise elder to instruct and mold the hero. The
wise elder, the once hero, the prophet and other figures always had my attention, to hold the
knowledge and teach others for the betterment of all. Growing up in a low income, crime
walking, government injustice and minimal opportunities for communities was testing. With my
single mother raising me on her own instilling principles and Godly outlook on life. I always
detested the lack of opportunity and resources for all the people around me, which lead to
ignorant behavior, less ambition and the ability for others to take advantage. I want to make a
change and know the more one knows and practices this knowledge the more one can do.
I believe in a classroom with a variety of students to better a classroom and a realistic
environment. I think it is only beneficial to have a class of diverse students from cultures to
opinions to better their growth as people and individuals. Mainly because the world and every
working environment will have many cohabitors of different cultures, beliefs and practices. I
tend to look to people like Madeline Hunter, Harry Wong, Fred Jones, Dr. Richard Lavoie and
Ruby Payne. They all have influenced education and they way we all see the career of teaching
students.

Classroom Layout

Rational
My layout of my classroom takes strategy from Fred Jones.
Teacher Desk
Is at the front right corner of the class because it is off in the way and able to
utilize the front of the class while my space is tucked away.
Material Cabinets
Being in the back left of the class to be off and able to get without being in the
way of anything else. The cabinets dont take up much room and are in an area that is free
for them. Students can get materials if needed by one per row and not cause traffic.
Bookshelves
Are in the back right corner away from the where the students desks are to make
sure there is no crowd. When students have finished their work and at the appropriate
time students can walk to get a book and return to their seat.
Homework Station
Being right next to the door students can walk in collect materials on the
homework station and put their homework in the homework bin on the station table.
Being here it is immediate, students can take what they need and submit homework then
walk to their seats and proceed on to their daily work.
Teachers locked cabinet
is next to the material cabinets because it is smart to keep the cabinets together.
being locked I can access all three and students only can get into the material
cabinets.
Filing cabinets
Since it is for teacher use only it will be next to my desk, for close proximity use.
White Boards
One at the front for main use in class lessons as the students face forward.
The second white board will be on the right that will be secondary with the
agenda and objective for the class.
Student Desks
For 30 students in 5 desks per row in 6 rows, 3 on each side.
Mounted Projector
in the center on the ceiling because it is not in anyones way and facing the front
that can be in direct vision for all students.
Trash can & Recycling can
Are both in the back of the class so they can be utilized without distracting
students
Students can just throw away or recycle their trash and return to their seat.
Bulletin Board
Students can see what is on the bulletin board when they walk in and leave with
appropriate time.

6
Students who finish their work and get a book can also walk by the bulletin board
to glance to see what is on it on their way to their desk
Computer station
is off in the back for a student who needs to focus on work without distractions
from classmates
Large table
In the back right of the class with the optimal room for the child.
But of course if the child who needs the big table but needs to sit in the front or
just closer; the large table can be moved.

Procedures

7
I made my procedures in the same research of Harry Wong and David Lavoie. My
procedures are in place to keep student needed order. Also to accommodate those students
who do need help and make their learning more efficient.
Beginning of class:

Students will walk in quietly to the class. The students will turn in homework to

the homework basket and collect supplies provided on the homework station. Then after
the students collect the supplies they will come in and sit at their assigned seat. After
sitting students will begin bellwork as posted on the board.
End of class:

Review the objective and begin closure. Closure will be completed and I may ask

students to share if the closure can fit. Also I will ask students to make sure their area is
as clean as they entered. Complete the closure then I will dismiss the class not the bell.
Transition between activities:

Between activities I will direct students to the main topic and subtopics. I have a

timer and will have students to complete activities in time provided. Segways to next
class activity by teacher guidance. By keeping attention, through auditory signal and
relating subject to their life.

Managing Student Work:

Homework will be collected at the beginning of class while students complete

bellwork. Students will put their homework in the homework bin on the homework
station. Once homework is completed I will hand back homework by passing it out
myself. Materials for students will be student collected at homework station.
Student Absences:

If a student is absent they will receive a zero for participation in class. I will have

a copy of the assignment(s) done in class and homework assigned in the late bin on the

8
homework station. Students will have the same amount of time they are absent to
complete. If they missed one day then they have a day to complete the work.
Late work:

Late work will not be accepted at all. Though I do understand some

circumstances can be a hard time for the student; so if there is a valid excuse it will be
deemed in the same procedure as late work.
Grading and Recording Student Work:

With short assignments that are a essay only consisting of one page in length or

even quizzes, grading and returning them to students will occur in the next day. For
longer assessments such as essays of 2 or more pages and other writings will be
graded and returned to students in a week's time. All fo efficient grading in a reasonable
timely manor.
Communication with Parents:

I will have my school email and school phone number on the syllabus for the

students on the first day of class. So all parents will have both, I will send an email for
parents if needed and if the email is not a resource for the parent then I will call. I will
make sure to respond to a parents email within the day.

Consideration of Diverse Learners:

I will have students who need to sit close to the board for vision reasons this will

reflect in the assigned seating. If a student needs to sit in the large table I will make sure
they are assigned to that seat. I will consult IEPs with class procedures, and give
students an enough time and ask for more for some students. As well as have printed
handouts of the lesson for students that need it to follow along more effectively.

Rules and Consequences

My rules and consequences are all inspired by Dr. Lavoie and Dr. Harry Wong. My
procedures will be taught to the students as well as be hung up for the class to see with the
consequences. All my rules and consequences follow the district and school policy, as well as
work with students of all learning styles. Students who are diverse learners will be able to follow

10
these rules, by specificity and direction. I will make sure to take time to ensure they comprehend
the rules and consequences. will consult IEPs with class procedures, and give students an
enough time and ask for more for some students. As well as have printed handouts of the
lesson for students that need it to follow along more effectively.

Rules
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Students will respect others views and opinions

Students will do their best on every assignment
Students will speak when teacher has allowed
Students will sit in assigned seats unless teacher otherwise allows
Students must be prepared for class
General Consequences

2. Contact home
3. After school detention

Conclusion
From the layout to the procedures and rules, all are inspired from what i learned in my
great classroom management class. Learning and taking notes from Dr. Lavoie, Dr. Wong and
Dr. Jones helped me create the signature assignment I have before you. In my philosophy of
education it all works to provide a safe and organized classroom that can be effective in a
students education.
