Description
East Asian Language Studies will provide you with solid training in all four language skills
(reading, writing, speaking and listening) in the two main East Asian languages, namely
Chinese and Japanese. In addition to gaining profound knowledge of East Asian cultures,
you will also choose to pursue advanced proficiency in one of the languages, and
intermediate proficiency in the other.

Two subjects in the same field may not be presented to satisfy entrance requirements
unless these subjects are: (a) Alberta Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2 and Mathematics 31,
(b) Languages other than English with the permission of Admissions.
Only one Grade 12 level course in a language stream may be used to satisfy
admission requirements: (a) one of Alberta French 30, 31A, 31B, 31C, 30-3Y, 30-9Y;
Alberta French Language Arts 30-1, 30-2, (b) one of Alberta Chinese Language Arts 30
(3Y, 6Y, 9Y, 12Y).
Only one of the following courses may be presented for admission: Alberta
Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2.
A minimum grade of 70% in Alberta Mathematics 30-1 is the prerequisite for first year
math courses.
Alberta Science 30 cannot substitute in for specific grade 12 science courses required
for admission (Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
Only one approved option course (5 credit or two 3 credit) can be used to fulfill one
approved subject requirement.

Residence Information
Kananaskis and Rundle Halls offer dormitory-style living in fully furnished single and
double rooms. You also have the option of living in a co-ed wing or in a single-gender
wing, and a choice of one of two meal plans.
All students applying directly from high school are guaranteed a place in residence for
both first and second year. Apply before April 30 and confirm your acceptance by May 31 to
guarantee your room. Academic Communities allow students who share a common goal
for academic success to live together on the same floor. There are three Academic
Communities to choose from, all for first-year students.
