Week one:

October 8th , 2015

Day one:
First day at Alandalus School, first, I and my colleagues meet the principal to
introduce our self. Then, the vice principal divided us to the grades that we are
going to teach. I got grade three, and my MST named T. Hessa. I met her and
discussed about the students, curriculum, and about my Teaching Practice Booklet.
Moreover, I asked her about her rules in her classroom and the strategies they used
through teaching. Now its time to have session five and here I met the students
that Im going to teach them for the three subjects (Math, English, and Science). I
observed an English class with grade 3/2. The teacher used a lot of transitions. And
the transition in the classroom is rarely a strategy happen in government school,
especially for primary. First, the students come from outside the class to the class in
one line. They moved from their desks to the carpet with a song line by line. When
they sat on the carpet, the teacher checks the attendance with the students. Also,
they had revision about the days of the week, and the months of the year.
Moreover, the teacher asked them about the date of today. However, then the
students moved again to their desks with another song. I really like the way the
teacher control of students. Then they have a revision for the exam. In contrast,
the teacher uses the same strategies for different classes. Such as, keep students
organized, attentive, and focused during a class. Thats when the teacher applied
different activities in the class, depending on the theories. She used group activities
so, the students help and support each other according to Vygotsky. Adding to that,
having individual activities which help the students to build their knowledge
according to Piaget (Discovery learning).
Day two:
Today the students have an exam on Unit one. I sat with the teacher and I asked
her if I could help her in reading the questions for the students. She allowed me,
and when I read the questions for the students. I felt a responsibility and worried,
because I should be careful about the way I pronounce the sentence. Here, I learned
how the exams look like, and what the teacher focus is on. Moreover, in this way I
let the students know me more as a teacher.
Day three:
Today, I carry out the activity with the teacher. My MST first teaches the students
what they have to do. She shows them the picture of the page in the workbook.
Then she solves the first questions to explain the activity, and then she lets them

work alone. In my role, I support the students for what they are weak in. I noticed
the difference in the students, and I made notes next to each name. Being with
students during the activities helped me to build relationships with the students and
know them closely. At the end of the lesson; the teacher gives the students their
exams. And to encourage the students, she gave the student who gets full mark a
reward.
Day four:
As every day, at 8:00 am the assembly begins. In contrast, during my teaching
practice of Australian school they dont have assembly. Which from my opinion, it
has a disadvantage, because the students will not be active and ready for the first
class. However, in this day, Arabic teachers prepared for a play. The play was about
about the UAE soldiers. It way a great play. Where else, the students did an
excellent acting. However, its the class time. And as yesterday, I helped the
teacher with the activity. But, this time I focused on the weak students depending
on my notes. And, I tried to support and help them to achieve the activity.
This week, give me a chance to know the teacher and the students. Adding to that, I
learned many strategies I can use in classroom management. Through my
observing , I noticed that the teacher has more than one role. For instance: teach
the students, support and scaffold the children, facilitate the information, and to
build the positive behavior of the students. And thats happened in every school,
private or government school. But, what happens in a private school that the
students have one teacher for each subject (Math, science, English). However, in
this school (government school) the students have one teacher for two subjects
(Math and Science). In this way, the teacher will know the students more, which
help her to know how to deal and treat each student. On the other hand, as the
teacher has role in the classroom, the students also have a big part of the class. For
example: the students should listen to the teacher, ask when they need to,
understand the lesson, construct their knowledge, and express their previous
knowledge. The strategies that my MST applied are really successful and Im
absolutely will use them while Im teaching.
