WEBQUEST

FOOD CHAINS

INTRODUCTION
Have you ever wondered who eats what? In our
environment, organisms are connected
together by what they eat. This is known as a
food chain. Every ecosystem has a unique food
chain based on the plants, animals, and other
organisms that make up the ecosystem. Today,
you will be looking into the unique food chains
of the different ecosystems.

TASK

You are to create a food chain with your group. You will be working in groups of four.
Each group will be assigned one ecosystem.
Artic Tundra: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Artic Tundra. With this information,
you are to create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1)
decomposer.
Rainforest: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Rainforest. With this information, you
are to create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1) decomposer.
Grasslands: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Grasslands. With this information, you
are to create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1) decomposer.
Desert: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Desert. With this information, you are to
create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1) decomposer.
Forest: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Forest. With this information, you are to
create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1) decomposer.
Ocean: You are to look up the organisms that live in the Ocean. With this information, you are to
create a food chain (with labels) with at least six (6) organisms, including one (1) decomposer.

PROCESS
1. View the BrainPop video on
Food Chains.
2. Read the resource about your
Ecosystem provided.
3. Choose one (1) producer for
your food chain.
4. Choose four (4) consumers for
your food chain. Make sure you
include both herbivores and
carnivores. Include omnivores
if possible.
5. Choose one (1) decomposer
for your food chain.

PROCESS
6. Create your food chain. Use the following template:

primary consumer, or secondary consumer.
8. Include a picture of the organism. You may either draw a picture
or print out a picture from the internet.
9. Write the Ecosystem you were assigned above the Food Chain
you created.
