o IBW = 120 lbs / 54.5 kg, %IBW = 123.4% (ideal)
For energy, used the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation for REE multiplied by activity factor
confined to bed (1.2) and multipled by stress factor postoperative (1.05-1.3)
Undesirable food choices R/T consumption of high fat diet and lack of physical activity AEB high
triglyceride (250mg/dL), high total cholesterol (240 mg/dL), low HDL (37 mg/dL), and high LDL (153
mg/dL).
Nutrition Intervention
1. Meals and snacks
a. Increase consumption of nutrient dense food (darky leafy greens, blueberries, salmon)
b. Increase intake of high fiber foods (oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, broccoli)
c. Increase intake of low fat foods (low-fat dairy, lean meats)
d. Consume low kcal foods (spinach, mushrooms, cucumbers)
2. Nutrition counseling and education
a. Attend smoking cessation classes
3. Coordination of nutrition care
a. Refer to personal trainer
b. Refer to smoking cessation counselor
Goals
1. Increase physical activity, have exercise regimen within 2-3 weeks (after release)
2. Normalize lab tests- triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL levels to normal ranges within 3
months
3. Stop smoking immediately
4. Consume low fat, low kcal diet immediately (dark leafy greens, blueberries, low fat dairy, lean
meats)
Monitoring and Evaluation
Re-assess biochemical tests triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL after 3 months
