Have clear learning objectives in mind. Prepare HighQuality examples and promote interaction.

Typical whole-group discussion but with specific


concepts and skills making sure students understand
the concept completely.

Organize teams in advance. Create teams that are


mixed by ability, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic
status, high and low achievers, and exceptionalities.

Transition to teams and make sure students know


that they are awarded points for team improvement
not individual improvement.

Use a variety of team study materials. Answers


should be convergent answer (i.e. solutions to math
problems, yes or no).

Carefully monitor group discussions for smooth


interaction. Be prompt if there is a problem. Pick a
team to show a good example.

Vary the difficulty of examinations. Have a base


score system with improvement points. Record
keeping is essential.

Quizzes are scored based on past performance.


Lower achieves are awarded higher improvement
points. Teams are awarded for combined points.

So what? What is important to understand about this?

This system has a positive effect on motivation. Helps improve social development, self-direction, and the communication
skills of your students.
