This document contains information about a thermistor measurement system and questions related to its design and components: 1) It provides the resistance equation for a thermistor and describes its use in a bridge circuit to measure temperature over a range of 0-50°C. It asks about the output voltage range and nonlinearity at 12°C. 2) To reduce noise, a differential amplifier is suggested to amplify the output voltage. It asks about connecting the amplifier, designing it for a 0-10V output range, and calculating its minimum input impedance to limit loading error. 3) For a sensor with a 0-10V output varying at 0-2Hz, it asks to design a low

a) Assuming that VOUT is measured with a voltmeter of infinite impedance, calculate[4]

i. The range of VOUT corresponding to an input temperature range of 0 to 50 oC;

ii. The nonlinearity at 12 oC as a percentage of full scale deflection

2) In question (1), the output voltage VOUT is to be amplified using a differential

amplifier, then . For this arrangement answer the questions below:
Bridge

a) To reduce the noise, a differential amplifier is suggested.

i.
Draw the electrical connection between this amplifier and VOUT terminals
in the bridge. [1]

ii.

Design the amplifier such that the output voltage range of the amplifier is
0-10 volt .[2]

iii.

What is the minimum input impedance of the amplifier that produces a

loading error less than 5%?[3]

b) Select an analog to digital convertor (ADC) for this system with maximum
quantization error 0.01 volt. Note that the available ADCs types are 8, 10, and 12
bit. [2]

3) In a system, the sensor output range is 0-10Volts and varies with a frequency range 02 Hz, design a low pass filter to meet the following specifications:[3]
a. The change in the signal when it passes through the filter must be 1% .
b. The filter response time must be 0.5 sec.
