A computer is an electronic machine that can accept data as input, manipulate it according to programmed instructions, produce output and store results. It consists of hardware components like input devices, output devices, storage devices, communication devices, and a system unit that work together with software. The basic components required for a computer to function are a central processing unit and memory located on the motherboard inside the system unit, which protect the internal electronic components.

Whats a Computer?
A computer is an electronic machine, operating under
the control of instructions stored in its memory that can accept data, manipulate the data according to specified rules, produce results, and store the results for future use.
A computer consists of a variety of hardware
components that work together with software to perform calculations, organize data, and communicate with other computers. The required components to have a functional computer are; input devices, output devices, communication devices, storage devices, and the system unit.
An input device is any hardware component that allows
a user to enter data and instructions into a computer. There are six frequently used input devices; keyboard, mouse, microphone, scanner, digital camera, and PC camera.
An output device is any hardware component that can
convey information to a user. There are three common output devices; printer, monitor, and speakers. A printer produces text onto paper, a monitor displays words or graphics, and speakers produce sound so you can hear the sounds generated by the computer .
A communication device enables computer users to
communicate and to exchange items such as data, instructions, and information with other computers. One type of communication device is a modem, which enables computers to communicate by telephone lines.
A storage device records and retrieves items to and
from a storage medium. These devices hold data, instructions, and information for future use. There are six commonly used storage devices; floppy disk drive, Zip drive, hard disk drive, CD-ROM drive, CDRW drive, and a DVD-ROM drive.
The system unit, chassis, protects the internal
electronic components of the computer from damage. There are two main components on the motherboard; central processing unit and memory. The central processing unit, processor, is the electronic device that interprets and carries out the basic instructions that operate the computer. The memory is a temporary holding place for data and instructions. Both of these components consist of chips, which is an electronic device that contains many microscopic pathways that carry electrical current.
