Resource Allocation

1. The document presents a networking diagram and resource allocation for a project. It includes activities, durations, early start/finish times, late start/finish times, and slack. 2. The original critical path is activities 1, 4, and 5, totaling 9 weeks. With limited Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, a loading schedule is developed, stretching the project to 11 weeks. 3. Real-world projects often encounter resource constraints that impact schedules, as demonstrated by this example where restricting to one of each resource increased the duration by 2 weeks.

Networking Diagram with Resource Allocation
Problem 1 Pg No- 451
1. Given the network plan that follows, compute the early, late, and slack times.
What is the project duration? Using any approach you wish (e.g., trial and
error), develop a loading chart for resources, Electrical Engineers (EE), and
resource, Mechanical Engineers (ME). Assume only one of each resource
exists. Given you schedule, compute the early, late, and slack times for your
project. Which activities are now critical? What is the project duration now?
Could something like this happen in real projects?

Calculation of critical path for the work flow:

1 EE + 4 EE + 5 ME = 2+1+6 = 9 weeks
2 EE + 6 ME
= 4+2
= 6 weeks
3 ME + 7 EE
= 3+4
= 7 weeks

Resource

For the completion of the project the maximum number of

weeks is 9 weeks, this path is considered to be critical path
for the completion of the project.
Critical path is 1 EE + 4 EE + 5 ME = 2+1+6 = 9 weeks

Conclusion
For the normal completion duration for the project is 9 weeks but in the practical
implementation scenario of project with only one Electrical Engineer and Mechanical
Engineer it delayed by 2 weeks (i.e., total duration is 11 weeks).
