43 GRAMMAR Linking words This unit includes words and phrases used to organize ideas in speaking and writing. ‘The position of the word or phrase is important. Sometimes a word comes in the middle of a sentence to join two clauses. Other times the word or phrase comes at the beginning ofa sentence and is followed by a comma in writing or a pause in speech.
