C. Establish A Plan of Action

1. The document discusses steps in a troubleshooting process, including establishing a theory of probable cause, escalating unsolved problems to supervisors, and performing backups before making changes. 2. Later steps in the process involve testing theories to determine the cause of issues, establishing plans of action to resolve problems, and documenting all findings, actions, and outcomes. 3. Specific issues covered include checking that computers are securely plugged in, questioning users to gather problem information, changing voltage settings when moving devices between countries, and removing batteries or adjusting jumpers to reset BIOS passwords.

1-B. Establish a theory of probable cause.

The second step is to establish a theory of probable cause. You need to look for
the obvious or most probable cause for the problem.
2-A. Escalate the problem.
If you can't figure out why a problem occurred, it's time to get someone else
involved. Escalate the problem to your supervisor.
3-C. Perform a backup.
Always perform a backup of critical data before making any changes to the
computer.
4-D. Implement preventative measures.
Implement preventative measures as part of step 5 to ensure that the problem
will not happen again.
5-A. Establish a plan of action to resolve the problem.
After testing the theory to determine cause (step 3) you should establish a plan
of action to resolve the problem (step 4)
6-C. Establish a plan of action.
After you confirm a theory, move to step 4 to establish a plan of action, and
implement the solution.
7-D. If the computer is plugged in.
Connections are quite often the culprit outside and inside the computer. If a
computer won't turn on, make sure it is plugged securely into an AC outlet.
8-A. Question the user.
Questioning the user is important when gathering information to identify the
problem.
9-D. Document findings.
Document findings, actions, and outcomes is the sixth and last step of the
CompTIA A+ troubleshooting process. Remember the process for the exam!
10-D. Change the voltage from 230 to 115.
Most likely, the voltage selector was set to 230 V so that it could function
properly in Europe (for example, in the UK.) It needs to be changed to 115 V so

that the power supply can work properly in the United States. Make sure to do
this while the computer is off and unplugged.
11-B. Remove the battery.
Removing the battery (and possibly moving the BIOS configuration jumper)
resets the BIOS passwords. You might also need to configure the BIOS
configuration jumper.
