(9.9) Differential Protection of Bus Bars::) 9.10 (Protection of The Present 66/11 KV Substation and Systems
The document discusses differential protection of bus bars and the protection schemes used for a 66/11 kV substation and distribution system. It explains that differential protection works by using current transformers on the incoming and outgoing feeders of the bus bars, so under normal conditions their currents cancel out, but a fault causes a mismatch. It then outlines the protection schemes selected for the 66/11 kV system based on these principles, including transformer differential relays, overcurrent relays, earth fault relays, and bus bar differential protection. Figures 9.8a and 9.8b further indicate the specific protection and measuring devices used for the 66/11 kV transformers and 66 kV line feeders.

(9.9) Differential Protection of Bus Bars :
The principle of circulating current is used . The protection is based on the principle that under normal working conditions the current entering into the Bus Bar will be equal to the current leaving the Bus Bar through feeders . The current transformers are inserted in each phase of the incoming and outgoing feeders of the bus bars and the secondary are connected in parallel across the relay . Under normal conditions the resultant current in secondary of C.T will be zero. If a fault occurs , the default current will pass in the incoming feeder to the fault and hence , the resultant current is not zero and the relay will act. Fig. (9.7) shows this method of protection .
: Protection of The Present 66/11 kV Substation And Systems (9.10)
Based on the above principles , we have selected the
protection schemes of the various equipment and circuits of the 66/11 kV system feeding our area . These schemes are detailed on the drawings of the protection presented in Fig. (9.8) . Some measuring and protection apparatus are also indicated on the single line diagram of the 66/11 kV substation , Fig.(8.1) , 1
showing these on the 11 kV side . Similar apparatus is used for
the measuring and protection objectives for the distribution transformers loops and points . Figure (9.8 a) indicates the following protection and measuring apparatus for the 66/11 kV transformers : I) Protection : Transformer differential Relay . O.C & S.C Relay . E.L. Relay D.O.C Relay . O.L. Relay . Bus-Bar diff. ii) Measuring : Winding Temp. Indicator . Oil Temp. indicator . Ammeters for 66 kV side . Voltmeter for 66 kV side . kW Meter . KVAR Meter . Power Factor Meter . Ammeter for 11 kV side . Voltmeter for 11 kV side . Ammeter for Transformer Neutral Point . Transformer Position Indicator .
