PM Exercise

This document provides exercises related to powder metallurgy. It asks the reader to use an equation to determine the maximum particle size that will pass through wire mesh screens with different mesh counts and wire diameters. It also asks the reader to calculate the proportion of open space in the screens. Finally, it asks the reader to determine the shape factor of ideal metallic particles that are spherical, cubic, cylindrical with different length-to-diameter ratios, and disk-shaped.

Powder Metallurgy Exercise

1. A screen with 325 mesh count has wires with a diameter of
0.001377 in. Using Eq. (16.1), determine:
(a) the maximum particle size that will pass through the wire mesh, and
(b) the proportion of open space in the screen.

2. A screen with 10 mesh count has wires with a diameter of

0.0213 in. Using Eq. (16.1), determine:
(a) the maximum particle size that will pass through the wire mesh, and
(b) the proportion of open space in the screen.

3. What is the aspect ratio of a cubic particle shape.
