Geometry Section 3 4

This document provides information about finding and comparing slopes of lines in the coordinate plane. It begins by defining slope as the ratio of the rise (vertical change) to the run (horizontal change) between any two points on a line. It then discusses how to calculate the slope of a line given two points it passes through. The document explains that a line's slope can be used to determine if it is parallel or perpendicular to another line. It provides examples of finding slopes, identifying parallel lines, drawing a perpendicular line, and solving a word problem about roller coaster slopes. Exercises are then provided to allow students to practice skills related to finding, comparing, and applying slopes of lines.

Slope of Lines in the Coordinate Plane

Negative slope: falls from left to right, as in line j

Positive slope: rises from left to right, as in line k

Zero slope (slope of 0): horizontal, as in line l

Undefined slope: vertical, as in line n
