Head in Fluid Mechanics & Its Types Head: (H) : Units

The document discusses different types of head in fluid mechanics. There are four main types of head: kinetic head, which is the kinetic energy per unit weight of fluid; potential head, which is the potential energy per unit weight; pressure head, which is the internal energy due to pressure exerted on the container; and total head, which is the sum of kinetic, potential, and pressure heads.

Head in Fluid Mechanics & its Types

Head: (H)
The total energy of the fluid particles per unit weight is known as head.
Units:

The unit of head is meter.

Following are different types of head.

Kinetic Head:
Kinetic energy per unit weight of the fluid is known as kinetic head.

Potential Head:
Potential head is the potential energy per unit weight.
Potential H ead=z

Pressure Head:
In fluid mechanics, pressure head is the internal energy of a fluid due to the
pressure exerted on its container. It may also be called static pressure head
or simply static head (but not static head pressure).
Pressure Head=

Total Head :
The sum of all heads will be the total head.
