INPUT DEVICES

Purpose:
Provides a means of communication between user and
the computer.
Used to feed the data instructions into a computer
system.
Some of the typical input devices are described below.

Keyboard
Most popular input device.
Similar to a typewriter in appearance.
Used to feed in the data into the computer system
character by character.

Mark Sense Reader


Input of information marked by pencil or pen on specially
per-printed cards or froms.
Data directly transferred to the computer.
Suitable for handling applications like answer sheets of
multiple choice
Testing, questionnaire responses etc.

Magnetic Ink Character Reader

Used to read characters inscribed on documents whit ink


containing magnetized particles.

Detects magnetic patterns formed by characters and


matches them with stored patterns for various
characters.

Used extensively to process cherubs in banks and


insurance documents.

Light Pen
A device resembling an ordinary pen, used to indicate
locations on the computer screen by focusing a ray of light.

OUTPUT DEVICES
Purpose

To provide a means of communication between the


computer and the user.

To display the result of data processing carried out by


the computer in a form, understandable to the user.
