Pspice Coding Demo

This document demonstrates how to enter and run a basic PSpice coding simulation in six steps: 1) Open PSpice A/D and create a new text file to enter the coding for a simple voltage divider circuit. 2) Enter the coding for the voltage divider circuit with nodes, resistors, voltage source, and .PROBE command. 3) Save the file as a CIR file and close it. 4) Reopen the CIR file as an active file to run the simulation. 5) Run the simulation and view the output file which shows the node voltages match expectations. 6) The demonstration concludes with encouragement to explore further PSpice simulations.

PSPICE CODING –HOW TO ENTER AND RUN: A BASIC DEMONSTRATION

This demonstration explains how to enter a PSpice coding and it’s run in PSpice A/D through a number
of screen shots and through a simple example.

STEP 1: To open the PSpice A/D follow the steps shown,


You will get the following window as shown

STEP 2: Open a new text file to enter the coding for the simple voltage divider circuit shown. It is
desirable to find the nodal voltages at node 1 and at node 2 with respect to ground through DC bias
point analysis.

Open a new text file to enter the coding as shown.

STEP 3: In the empty text file enter the coding as shown. The .PROBE command is optional.
STEP 4: Next save the text file as shown. You have to save the file in capital letters in a desired location
with the file extension .CIR; here I saved the file as DEMO.CIR
The file got saved as a text file first as shown.
Next close the text file as shown

This leads to a blank window as shown


STEP 5: Again open the saved circuit file, this time as an active file to run the simulation as shown.

Next run the simulation as illustrated.


After the simulation run you will get the message in the lower left window. Next view the output file to
see the result of DC bias point analysis as shown in the following screen shot.
The output window appears as shown. Scroll down this window to view the desired output as indicated
on the next illustration. You can see that the node 1 voltage is 3v while the node 2 voltage is 2V as
expected from the application of the voltage divider rule.
