1.Identify: Kublai Khan, Marco Polo
Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan, he got the title Great Khan in 1260. He ruled the entire Mongol Empire. Marco Polo is one of the most famous European traders who visited China. He learned several Asian languages during his many travels and served Great Khan, who sent him on several government missions to different Chinese Cities. 2.What happened when the Mongols attempted to conquer Japan? When Mongols attempted to conquer Japan, they sent thousands of Mongol, Chinese and Korean warriors. It was the largest seaborne invasion force in history until WWII happened. After 53 days all of the warriors in Japan had fought the invaders to a standstill. The next day a huge typhoon swept across the Sea of Japan. The ships owned by the Mongols were destroyed to bits against the rocky shore. 3.Describe the impact of Mongol rule on China Since there was way less Mongolians than Chinese, Kublai needed to use non-Mongol officials to help him rule China successfully. Mongols lived apart from the Chinese and followed different rules. Even though Kublai Khan had many differences with the Chinese, Kublai had restored the Grand Canal and extended it. He also built a paved highway along the Grand Canal and ran 1,000 miles.
