IV. Project Description

The project aims to build a seismograph using a vibration sensor, microcontroller and data acquisition device. The vibration sensor will detect vibrations and the microcontroller will convert the data into an analog waveform displayed using LabVIEW software. The seismograph will indicate when vibrations exceed an adjustable threshold using an LED indicator. It will use a vibration sensor module and comparator to detect vibrations and trigger the circuit. A microcontroller and data acquisition device will convert the data into a waveform displayed in the LabVIEW GUI.

Project Description
The proponents of this project
aim to build a seismograph using a
vibration sensor, microcontroller and
myDAQ (data acquisition device). The
output will be an analog waveform
that will be displayed using LabVIEW
software.
The Vibration module based on
the vibration sensor, SW-420, and
comparator LM393 are used to detect
if there is any vibration beyond the
threshold. The threshold can be
adjusted by the on-board
potentiometer.
When there is no vibration, this
module output logic LOW using an LED
light as an indicator and vice versa.
When no vibration or tilt, the
product is ON conduction state, and in
the steady state, when a vibration or

tilt, the switch will be rendered

instantly disconnect the conductive
resistance increases, generating a
current pulse signal, thereby
triggering circuit. The characteristic of
this switch is usually general in the
conduction state briefly disconnected
resistant to vibration, so it's high
sensitivity settings by IC.
The proponents also used
microcontroller and myDAQ to convert
the acquired data into an analog
waveform. Then, with the help of
LabVIEW software, the GUI will display
the result waveform.
