Solution:-: Strategy For Analytical Solution

This document summarizes solving for the deflection of a simply supported beam loaded by a central point force using analytical and finite element methods. Analytically, the beam is modeled as two halves with symmetry boundary conditions. This yields a maximum deflection of 0.02083 m at the center. A finite element model is also created with 2 elements and 3 nodes, reproducing the same deflection and angular results. Execution times for solving models with increasing number of elements are also reported, showing processing time increases linearly with the number of elements.

PROBLEM 2:- Find the deflection of a simply

supported beam, loaded by a point force at the

mid-span. Verify the obtained solution by solving
the same problem using symmetry boundary
condition with finite element method.
Solution:Let us consider simply supported beam in which
force is acting at the mid-span of the beam.

Geometric parameter:- length of beam (L), Deflection of

beam()
Given,
Length of beam (L) = 1 m
Modulus of elasticity (E) = 1 N/m2
Moment of inertia (I) =1 m4
Force (F) = 1 N.
Strategy for Analytical Solution: - We have to find maximum
deflection and angle of deflection. To find these things, we use
double integration method in beam element by simply
considering the half of the beam and after finding the
deflection and slope we will use symmetry boundary conditions
to find the slope of the other half of the beam.

Now as we know that according to the double integration

method the deflection and slope of the beam is given by
P L3
48 EI

Max. Deflection () =

Angle of deflection () =

P L2
16 EI

After putting the values. We get,

Max. Deflection () at L/2 = 0.02083 m
Angle of deflection ( 1) at (L=0) =0.0625
Using symmetric boundary condition,
Angle of deflection (2) at L =0.0625
Finite Element Method Solution: - We have to find deflection in
the simply supported beam at different node.
Let us consider two elements of beam and three nodes.
