The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher activities and student
activities
We are starting our new unit on Native Americans today! Is anyone here a Native
American or know a Native American?
Students raise hands to show if they are/know one
Before I tell you anything about Native Americans, we need to do an activity outside.
Explain expectations of student for going outside
- You will be split into small groups, with your small group, you will fill out a worksheet
which I will explain once we are out there
- When you hear three whistles, come back by me
Pass out Native American packets
Instruct students to turn to page 1
When I tell you to, I need each group to spread around the playground(field) and using
the natural resources you see around you, fill out this worksheet. You will need to decide
where to find shelter, clothes, something to drink, something to eat, and how to keep
yourselves safe. Remember you can only use natural resources (not the school building or the
playground).
After I tell you what group you are in, you may grab a pencil, a clipboard, and your
packet. Then line up with your group.
- Guide the students outside of the school building to the playground (or whatever is available
to you)
