Semi Centrifugal Clutch

A semi centrifugal clutch uses both spring force and centrifugal force to engage the clutch. At normal speeds, springs keep the clutch engaged, while at higher speeds centrifugal force assists in torque transmission. This type of clutch is used in high-powered race cars to reduce driver effort and in vehicles where constantly shifting gears is not feasible. It consists of weighted levers and springs on a pressure plate, such that at high speeds the weights engage the levers to firmly engage the clutch via pressure on the plate.

Semi centrifugal clutch

The semi centrifugal clutch uses the centrifugal force as well as spring force
for keeping it in engaged position.
The springs are designed to transmit the torque at normal speeds, while
the centrifugal force assists in torque transmission at higher speeds.
This type of clutch is used to be incorporated in the high powered race cars
to reduce the driver effort . Also found to be useful for a vehicle where the
shifting of gear is not always feasible.
There is a clutch pedal as like other type.
Note:
The effective Torque transmission depends on how effectively the friction

surface is establishing the frictional contact with the rotating member.

A semi centrifugal clutch consists of three hinged and weighted levers and three
clutch springs alternately arranged at equal spaces on the pressure plate.
At normal speeds, when the power transmission is low, the springs keep the
clutch engaged; the weighted levers do not have any pressure on the pressure
plate.
At high speed, when the power transmission is high, the weights fly off and
the levers also exert pressure on the plate keeping the clutch firmly engaged.
When the speed decreases, the weights fall and levers do not exert any pressure

on the pressure plate. Only the spring pressure is exerted on the pressure plate
which is sufficient to keep the clutch engaged.
An adjusting screw is provided at the end of the lever, by means of which the

centrifugal force on the pressure plate can be adjusted.
