Typography Project:

essentials of lettering
1. The weight of the components of a letter must appear to be the same visually
2. the various individual shapes used to make a letter should be similar in design
3. create even spacing between your letters and between parts of an indivual letter
4. always consider the negative spaces around the parts of your letter

Assignment:

On gridded Paper: Design a combination of your initials (2 or 3 initials),


where the letters interact and combine with each other, draw your combo
in the 6 box with pencil and then go over it with sharpie (consider the weight
of your lines, the brackets, and the serifs to make it more interesting)

On the computer: using the 6 x 6 template provided (called Initials template.ai)


Replicate your initials design by illustrating it in Adobe Illustrator
Using the PEN tool primarily, consider adding gradient, pattern, or color to
your letter combination

on the computer: using only the letters from your name and numbers from
your birthday (day/month/year), design a character with a face. each
face must iclude hair, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, eyebrows, etc.
(use document called: type character.ai). you may only use the text tool.

Helpful hints:
use the transform tool to rotate, scale and skew the size, proportion,
and placement
under the type menu, you can create outlines to adjust the components of
individual letters using the white arrow tool.
overlap, vary the stroke size
limit color use to 3 colors
limit the number of fonts used in the character
consider using black and greys as your primary colors, then add small
amounts of color to create emphasis
