Nutrigenomics???: Advanta Ges

Nutrigenomics is the study of how foods and their components interact with human genes to affect gene expression. It focuses on identifying molecular interactions between nutrients and the genome, and how genetic variations influence nutrient absorption, metabolism, and health effects. The goal of nutrigenomics is to develop personalized nutrition strategies based on an individual's genotype to optimize health outcomes. While still in its early stages, nutrigenomics may eventually enable truly personalized diets and help develop enhanced or fortified foods tailored to individuals' genetic profiles.

NUTRIGENOMICS???

What is it ???
Nutrigenomics is a
branch of nutritional
genomics and is the study
of the effects
of foods and food
constituents on gene
expression. This means
that nutrigenomics is
research focusing on
identifying and
understanding
molecular-level
interaction
between nutrients and
other dietary bioactives with the genome.
Nutrigenomics has also
been described by the
influence of genetic
variation on nutrition, by
correlating gene expressi
on or SNPs with a
nutrient's absorption, met
abolism, elimination or
biological effects. By
doing so, nutrigenomics
aims to develop rational
means to optimize
nutrition with respect to
the subject's genotype.
By determining the
mechanism of the
effects of nutrients or
the effects of a
nutritional regime,
nutrigenomics tries to
define the causality
relationship between
these specific nutrients
and specific nutrient
regimes (diets) on
human health.
Nutrigenomics has been
associated with the idea
of personalized nutrition
based on genotype.
While there is hope that
nutrigenomics will

contribution to public
health over the next
decade is thought to be
major. Whilst
nutrigenomics is aimed
at developing an
understanding of how
the whole body responds
to a food via systems
biology, research into the
effect of a single
gene/single food
compound relationships
is known as nutrigenetics.

Scientists, through
nutrigenomics seek to
prevent genetic diseases
from occurring in an
individual. Large-scale food
corporations are spending
fortunes on nutrigenomics,
and on development of
enhanced or fortified
products to deliver
personalized diets.
Nutrigenomics is also used
to develop pet foods and
animal feed stocks for
similar reasons.

But

Ever since nutrigenomics

has been made public,
many industries have
devised a product custommade for certain individual
or group of individuals
based on their genetic
constitution. For instance,
based on DNA profiling of
an individual, a diet plan will
be devised specifically for
him or her for an optimal
health or for prevention of
potential diseases.

Because it is still new, the

advantages of nutrigenomics are still limited in
the current time. The
benefits include a growth in
concern on one's health and
the chance to have a

discovering genetic
vulnerabilities which can be
a strong motivating factor to
encourage people to make
the necessary dietary and
lifestyle changes, and the

for. Profiling and Analyzing
one's DNA may cost
between $300 and $3,000.
