Dr. Martin luther king jr. Had dreams of a world where blacks and whites could walk in the same public places together and lose hate towards each other. Tyana Laye has a fear of being critiqued, but says it's high time the mouths of anxiety and hesitancy were taped shut.

sometimes,
from the dark recesses of our minds
comes a thought.
splintered and dust covered,
like the slat in the barn
that has been kicked in
by hobos.
they slip in during
dark winter months to
keep warm.
nestled in the hay
they stare up at the loft.
thinking their dust covered
thoughts.
one by one.

DREAMING IS SOMETHING
EVERYONE HAS. HOWEVER,
DREAMS CAN BE
ANYTHING FROM CAREER INTEREST
TO LUXURY, TO BEING RICH AND
ECT. FOR THE MOST
PART IT IS SOMETHING THAT
MAKES A PERSON EXCITED OR
REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO.
AS FOR ME DREAMS ARE MY
GOALS. FOR EXAMPLE THE
FAMOUS DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING
JR
ALSO HAD DREAMS, DREAMS OF
CHANGE IN THE WORLD THAT
BLACKS AND WHITES COULD WALK
IN THE SAME PUBLIC PLACES
TOGETHER AND WALK TOGETHER
AND LOSE HATRED TOWARDS
EACH OTHER.

Ever since I can remember, I've always
been interested in the Army. It all started
when i saw the uniform. I saw that the
people wearing them, were getting mad
respect. I really didn't understand why,
until i got to high school and got into
ROTC. The more i got involved in ROTC,
the more interested I was. I wanted to
begin wearing that uniform i saw. But
what i didn't know was that i had a long
way to go in order to be able to wear that
uniform. That uniform represents more
than just "a uniform". The uniform
represents a bond that all servicemen
have.

Is there any such fear like the one of being critiqued? I don't
really believe there is, but I'd say it's high time the mouths of
anxiety and hesitance were taped shut, it's time to brush off
my keyboard and find a new pen. My work will be exposed to
any who deem it worthwhile, and it rightly deserves it after all
the work it gets put through. Who knows? Maybe this will be
a breakthrough for me, or perhaps it will be my downfall.

I can't remember a time when I didn't want to be a teacher.

The earliest memories from my childhood are set on the front porch
of our house where I had gathered neighborhood children to sit on
the stone steps while I taught them how to write new words on the
concrete with pieces of chalk supplied by my mother. I imagine that
she willingly spent whatever money necessary to keep me outfitted
with the tools of my trade so that I would babysit my younger
siblings while she cleaned the house, or maybe she and the
mother's of my other students played bridge and drank cocktails. I
didn't care too much what she was doing as long as she left me to
my teaching. None of the kids questioned my authority to be the
head of the classroom; that was solely my role without challenge.

Most children, normal children I should say, grow up with
their normal lives and become very educated adults as their
parents are. Now lets think what is a normal child? The
kid with good grades? Two parent home? Involved in sports?
Aspiring to become a doctor/lawyer? Well according to the
media and some politicians in the past/present, a normal
child just so happens to be a Caucasian child. This normal
child is also associated with success. That norm has been
set by the media rather than the people. This outlook on
success has been spoon fed to the public for years. A
Caucasian face is much easier to associate with success
rather than an African American face. Mainly because African
American teens are portrayed as coming from unstable
homes, single parent homes, and history of crime (drug and
violence related) in the immediate family. Although this may
be true for some, (like me), a situation like that can be used
as an excuse to hold you back from what rightfully yours; an
equally earned education and success. HI MY NAME IS TIARA
RUTLEDGE.

When i was a youngun running the streets of Mexico, I wanted to become a

thug. I grew up listening to 2pac and hanging with the wrong people. My
father played a big role, he wasnt always there for me. He was
always working and making his life better. At the time, I didnt realize what he
was doing for me. Working for MY better life. But the story Im going to tell
you is about what I wanted to be and how it has changed my life dramatically.
