CD-ROM stands for Compact Disc-Read Only Memory and contains video, audio or software stored in the computer's ROM. CD-ROMs can have varying transfer speeds from 1x to 72x, with higher speeds allowing faster reading from the disc. CD-ROM stands for Compact Disc- Read Only Memory. Typically Compact discs contain video, audio or some sort of software. The information that is on the disc is usually stored in the ROM of the computer.
ROM stands for Read Only Memory. This is where all the perment
information the computer has is stored.

CD-ROMs can have multiple transfer speeds. They go 1x, 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x,
12x, 18x, 20x, 32x, 36x, 52x, and 72x. CAV drives can go between 12x and 24x.
Obviously The more the speed, the faster the computer can read the disc.
There are also diffrent interfaces that connects the CD-ROM to the computer.
There is IDE/ATA which is one of the most common, Panasonic is an older
Proprietary, and Parallel which is used for older external CD-ROMs. Ther are
alot more that I havent listed here.
