Course Description: This Integrated I course is designed to formalize and extend the
mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. We will focus our study this year
on the following six critical areas: (1) extend understanding of numerical manipulation to
algebraic manipulation; (2) synthesize understanding of function; (3) deepen and extend
understanding of linear relationships; (4) apply linear models to data that exhibit a linear
trend; (5) establish criteria for congruence based on rigid motions; and (6) apply the
Pythagorean Theorem to the coordinate plane.
Materials: For this course we will be using the College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM)
Core Connections Integrated I textbook. Students should come to class prepared each day
with this textbook, a graph paper notebook (available for purchase in class) for notes, a
binder, a straightedge, a calculator, and a pencil.
Classwork: Work done in class will be turned in at the end of each day and will count
toward your participation grade. This work will:
include the warm-up, learning goal and all problems completed that day
have problems numbered in order
be headed with your name, date, and class period
be as neat as possible
Homework: Homework may be done either in your graph paper notebook or on loose
paper. Homework must:
Homework will be assigned most nights Monday through Thursday. Assignments will be
due the following day at the start of class. Homework will be checked and scored based
on completeness. Late homework will result in partial credit, except in the case of
excused absences. It is the responsibility of the student to get missed
assignments (homework/classwork/notes) after class, during break or at lunch.
Assessments: This course will include both individual and group tests. In order to
receive credit for solutions on tests, all work must be shown. If a test is missed due to
absence, it must be taken within one week following the absence or else a score of zero
will be assigned.
