DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENETIC AND NON-GENETIC RNA
Genetic RNA
1. The organisms having only RNA is called genetic RNA.
2. RNA plays a genetic role in such organisms.
3. Example: RNA is found as genetic material in:
Plant viruses: TMV
Animal viruses: Influenza virus, Poliomyelitis virus
Bacteriophages: MS2
Non genetic RNA
1. The organisms having DNA along with RNA is called non genetic RNA.
2. In such organisms, RNA has no genetic role, but carries the orders of DNA.
3. It is heterogeneous and includes:
Messenger RNA(m-RNA)
Ribosomal RNA(r-RNA)
Transfer RNA(t-RNA)
All non-genetic RNA have DNA dependent replication.
A non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a functional RNA molecule that is not translated into a protein. Less-frequently used
synonyms are non-protein-coding RNA (npcRNA), non-messenger RNA (nmRNA) and functional RNA (fRNA).
The DNA sequence from which a non-coding RNA is transcribed is often called an RNA gene.
Non-coding RNA genes include highly abundant and functionally important RNAs such as transfer RNAs (tRNAs)
and ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), as well as RNAs such assnoRNAs, microRNAs, siRNAs, snRNAs, exRNAs,
and piRNAs and the long ncRNAs that include examples such as Xist and HOTAIR
