WRITE OBJECTIVES

ASSESS NEEDS
To determine & address the
gaps between where you
want to be and the current
situation.
To determine finite resources
to develop and implement
the applicable solution.
To determine whether or not
it is feasible to proceed.

WRITE GOALS

Goals should:

Define the type of need for


change:

Normative: An individual or
group needs to reach an
established standard.
Anticipated: Needs are
related to projected
demands.
Felt: Perception of the need
to change is driven by a
particular incident or
observation.
Comparative: Needs having
to do with one institution

Describe real-world
expected performance upon
completing the curriculum.

Describe overall outcomes


Be stated in terms of learner
outcomes
Be realistically attainable by
the completion of the
curriculum
Be stated in terms of learner
knowledge, behavior, and
attitudes
Describe real world behaviors
to be used by the learner

Must be specific.
Includes :
o the audience
intended, the
observed/recorded
behavior
o the conditions of the
observed behavior
o the degree to which a
behavior must be
performed
Consider how to test
learners to determine if they
achieved what you want
them to achieve.

Objectives should:

Relate to a goal
Answer the question, What
will learners be able to do at
the end of the curriculum?
Be stated in precise,
observable, measurable
terms
