Binary Phase Shift Keying

This document provides instructions for a laboratory experiment on binary phase shift keying (BPSK). The experiment uses simulation software and a BPSK circuit to modulate a carrier signal with a binary data signal. Students will observe the modulated BPSK signal as they vary the frequencies of the carrier and binary signals. The goal is to perform BPSK modulation and analyze the output signal under different frequency conditions.

Binary Phase Shift Keying

Aim
Perform Binary Phase shift keying.
Tool provided
Simulation software
Binary Phase Shift Keying circuit
Theory
PSK (Phase Shift Keying): a simpler form of Phase Modulation for transmitting digital/binary data. In
PSK, the phase of the carrier signal is shifted (by 180) to represent data.

Procedures
1. The circuit is connected as per the circuit diagram shown in fig 2.
2. Apply the carrier signal of approximately 10V (p-p) at 2kHz frequency and
binary signal of 10V (p-p) with frequency 300Hz. What is your
observation?
3. Observe on the BPSK modulation signal by changing the frequency of
carrier signal to 3 kHz, 4kHz, 5kHz. (Binary signal is kept constant at 300Hz)
4. Observe on the BPSK modulation signal by changing the frequency of Binary
signal to 600Hz, 700Hz, 800Hz (carrier signal is kept constant at 2kHz).
