METHOD OF STATEMENT

REPAIR OF DAMAGED AND UNCOATED AREAS


OF HOT-DIP GALVANIZED COATINGS

According to ASTM A780, there are three different methods of touch up and repair of hot
dip galvanized steel. They are zinc-based solders, zinc-rich paints and zinc spray method. Due
to the site conditions touch up and reparing is going to be achieved by zinc-rich paint
application method.

Surface Preparation:
1- With the aid of a power tool, remove dust, paint,
corroded parts, weld flux, weld spatter
2- Areas where power tool cant access use a wire
brush to clean the surface.
3- Surface has to be clean, dry and free of oil.

Zinc- Rich Paint Application:


1- Ensure surface is clean , dry and free of dust.
2- Apply paint with either brush or spray.
3- The coating thickness must be %50 more than
the surrounding coating thickness but not
greater than 4.0 mils (100 m).
4- If necessary, apply the coating two passes in
order to achieve desired thickness.
